In 1949, Chemist Graham Wulff founded the Oil of Olay company in South Africa. Wulff worked in his laboratory to create unique, more effective skincare products than any that were available on the market. His wife was his inspiration, and volunteered to test the beauty fluid along with Wulff’s marketing partner’s wife and several friends. The end result was a moisturizer with a chemical makeup that closely resembles the natural oils that are produced by the skin. The stable moisturizer protected the skin, restored moisture, and left the surface of the skin with a supple, matte finish.
In 1985 Proctor and Gamble purchased the company and the product line was increased to include such items as cleansers, creams, soaps and body wash. The name was shortened in 1999 from Oil of Olay to Olay, and the product line was extended further with the addition of Quench, Total Effects, Professional, White Radiance, Olay Vitamins and Regenerist.
The Regenerist line was developed to help skin look younger and regain suppleness without the need for expensive chemical peels, laser procedures or surgery. There are nearly 25 products in the line to meet every stage of skin care. Amino-peptides combine protein components and biological acids and are a main ingredient of Olay’s Regenerating Serum. The amino-peptides rejuvenate the skin and regenerate the cells, which dulls wrinkles and fine lines and creates a smoother texture, all for under $20 a bottle.
In 2006, Olay Regenerist was compared to other anti-aging creams in a consumer association test and was named the best performer of the group. Many other third-party comparisons and tests have taken place. While some results were less than stellar because Olay tests products on animals, most reviews resulted in perfect five star ratings. With over 50 years of success in the business and rave reviews from independent tests, it is no wonder that Olay Regenerist is the top retail brand in skin care in the world (with the exception of Japan). Regenerist is an economical, effective way to refresh the skin and, following Olay’s motto, “Challenge what’s possible.”
