In the present day, amongst women, cervical cancer is the second most common type of cancer in the world, after breast cancer. It affects about 15,800 women in the United States each year, and 5,100 women dies from this disease, according to the American Cancer Society. Risk factors include smoking, infection with human papilloma-virus and the use of contraceptives.

A study by the experts in New York of 80 women who had advanced cervical cancer showed 85% were smokers and the rest had significant exposure to passive smoking, generally through partners who smoked. While nicotine is normally not considered a causative agent, smoking may predispose a woman to the expansion of cervical cancer by lowering her immune surveillance at the cellular level.

Another study, carried out over a period of 10 years, stated that for women infected with the human papilloma-virus, smoking increases the risk of developing pre-cancer or cancer of the cervix.

Researchers studied 2,100 women, ages 16 or older, who were infected with human papilloma-virus and who received their healthcare through Heath Institutes. Among those who smoked more than a pack a day, about 8 percent developed a pre-cancerous condition called cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia, grade III, or
CIN3. Or, they developed cancer of the cervix.

The combined rate for pre-cancer and cancer among human papilloma-virus infected women who never smoked was about 3.5 percent. Former smokers had about a 6 percent combined risk.

So to sustain your prolonged healthy life stop smoking right now!

Addiction is compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance characterized by … well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal as defined in Webster’s dictionary.

There are physical addictions to nicotine, drugs, alcohol and caffeine, and then there are also relational addictions, involving one person or group of people who have a powerful hold on someone else’s life. Sometimes the two types of addiction are interconnected which are physical addiction and psychological addiction.

For some, an addiction is a method of numbing pain. Some people, literally, become powerfully addicted to painkiller pills, often following surgeries or some other medical procedure during which the painkillers were legally prescribed. Others use the intoxicated feeling they have after drug or alcohol use to forget about the pains and stresses of life, whether past or present.

Addiction is degenerative, addiction is cyclical and addiction is generational. One thing addiction is not is insurmountable, but recovery is a choice, it is a lifelong process and it is the toughest – and most rewarding – path an addict could choose.

How To Identify If Someone Is Addicted

There are many signs that can suggest addiction. But most obvious is the need to have a particular drug or substance. Others may include changes in mood or weight loss or gain. These also are signs of other conditions, too, though, such as depression or eating disorders.

Psychological Signals

When one start taking drugs or alcohol as a way to forget problems or to relax.
Stealing or selling belongings to be able to afford drugs.
Mood swings can also be a signal of drug addiction.
There may be a loss of interest in activities that used to be important.
Changes in friend circle, such as hanging out only with friends who use drugs

Physical Signals

There might be a changes in sleeping habits. One feels shaky or sick always.
There can also be a change in eating habits, including weight loss or gain.
Need to take more of the substance to get the same effect.

Want To Quit Drugs?

Overcoming addictions is not that easy. Quitting drugs or drinking is probably going to be one of the hardest things you’ve ever done. Most people who try to kick a drug or alcohol problem need professional assistance or a treatment program to do so.
A lot of people think they can kick the problem on their own, but that doesn’t work for most people. You can always talk about your problems to some elderly person. He or she can be your friend, relative or any person who can help you to find out a right solution for your problem.

There is a very thin line that separates substance abuse from addiction.

Substance Abuse

Use of illegal substance or use of legal substance in the wrong way is Substance Abuse.

Addiction

Addiction means a person has no control over whether he or she uses a drug or drinks. But when one uses substance like marijuana or cocaine it is addiction. Addiction begins as abuse.

You can abuse a drug (or alcohol) without having an addiction. If some one smokes for a few time it doesn’t mean that he or she is addicted to smoking. But it does mean that she’s abusing a drug which could lead to an addiction.

When we think of addiction, we usually think of alcohol or illegal drugs. Addiction do not mean excess intake of alcohol or illegal drugs. One can get addicted to anything, it could be medications, cigarettes, even glue! People can get addicted to all sorts of substances.
And some substances are more addictive than others: Drugs like crack or heroin are so addictive that they might only be used once or twice before the user loses control.

Addiction can be physical, psychological, or both.

Physical Addiction

When a person’s body actually becomes dependent on a particular substance it can be termed as Physical addiction. Smoking can be considered as Physical addiction. It also means building tolerance to that substance, so that a person needs a larger dose than ever before to get the same effects. Someone who is physically addicted and stops using a substance like drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes may experience withdrawal symptoms. Common symptoms of withdrawal are diarrhea, shaking, and generally feeling awful.

Psychological Addiction

When the cravings for a drug are psychological or emotional it is Psychological Addiction. People who are psychologically addicted feel overcome by the desire to have a drug. They may lie or steal to get it.
When a person starts depending on drugs and no longer take them to have fun or to get high he or she crosses the line between abuse and addiction. Persons whole life centers around the need for the drug.

A chronic relapsing brain disease characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences is known as addiction. Addiction can be considered as a very serious disease that is as harmful as heart disease. It causes harmful consequences and disrupts the normal, healthy functioning of organs.Addiction can also be considered as a brain disease since it changes the structure and function of brain. These changes can be long lasting can also lead to harmful behaviour.

Why Drugs?

People take drugs due to various reasons. Here we will discuss a few reasons.

1) To Enhance Performance

Some athletes also use drugs to chemically enhance or improve their athletic or cognitive performance can similarly play a role in initial experimentation and continued drug abuse.

2) Out Of Curiosity

Few teen aged or students intake drugs just only because others are taking it. In this respect adolescents are particularly vulnerable because of the strong influence of peer pressure; they are more likely, for example, to engage in “thrilling” and “daring” behaviors.

3) Feeling Of Pleasure

There are many people who intake drugs to feel good. Intake of drugs gives a feeling of pleasure. This initial sensation of euphoria is followed by other effects, which differ with the type of drug used.
Intake of cocaine gives the feeling of power, self confidence and also increases energy.
Where as if someone consumes heroin then the felling is different which is relaxation and satisfaction.

4) To Get a Better Feeling

Stress can be a main reason for intake of drugs. There are few people who suffer from social anxiety, stress-related disorders, and depression. Intake of drugs is an attempt to decrease the feeling of distress. Stress can play a major role in beginning drug use, continuing drug abuse, or relapse in patients recovering from addiction.

For several years, when people thought of alcohol and drug rehab, the image that almost immediately came to mind was most likely a group of people, sitting in a circle in folding chairs in a big empty room. Its true that group programs still aid many people in their expedition to stop drinking and using illegal substances but most who have fell too deep into their addictions do not find relief this way. There is good news for those who need help getting over their addictions - slowly, there has been a proliferation of alternative therapies to alcohol and drug rehab. These methods may prove useful when traditional rehabilitation methods fail.

Reason Of Getting Addiction

The cause for addiction are intricate and vary with each and every individual. These same reasons may be difficult for us to understand, and even a lot more difficult to resolve. Drug and alcohol rehab in recent years has taken a hard and diverse approach to the problem of addiction. Taking in consideration are the physical, emotional, and even nutritional factors that may be causes. Whether you’re seeking help for yourself or whether you are a concerned friend or family member of someone who is in a very dangerous grip of addiction, be confident that you are not the only one. Addictions come in varied forms, some are dangerous and some are not.

The Physiological Approach

It doesn’t mean that just because you are encountering a dangerous addiction it’s alright to think that you are different from everyone else. It only means that you’ll need to seek out specially qualified help. Many physiological and chemical imbalances that occur in our bodies and brains may contribute or cause our feelings of depression, that can lead us into addiction as we try to self medicate to compensate for our emotional distress. We are living in an era where many problems like chemical depression and blood sugar imbalances are easily diagnosed and treated. Often, addicts who treat these underlying problems will experience great relief from the urge to feel better by drinking.

3. Blood Chemistry

The best and most popular idea we have of drug rehabilitation is the old 12-step group therapy that we so often see on television shows and movies. The fact is, science has a lot more to tell us about how our bodies and brains respond to all kinds of substances. A lot of evidence suggests that when a physiological or chemical imbalance is occurs in the brain no matter what the cause, that individual will try to compensate for the imbalance he is experiencing by self-medicating with drugs. Modern drug rehab programs often use this approach to look for chemical brain imbalances to help their patients recover. In addition to this, imbalances in blood chemistry can also lead to drug and alcohol addiction. Having problems such as low blood sugar can lead someone to self medicate so that he can cure any fatigue or anxiety that he may be feeling. A balanced nutritional intake and exercise have shown themselves to be aids in the process of drug rehab.

4. Social Theory

Usually people who are extremely addicted often have mistreated themselves, so by finding a diet and exercise program, it can in fact lift their self image. An additional advantage of exercise to anyone who is an addict is that it also renders a natural high that can help an addict to get through the rough periods in his rehabilitation. Some individuals may be comfortable with the idea of group counseling while some may have difficulty in comprehending it. An option for these kinds of people is one on one therapy, where a therapist can reach out to the deepest and most personal aspects of an addict’s life. Counting for answers for addiction and probable improvement is an extremely complicated task to anyone. It takes a lot of devotion and time is required to see even the smallest of evolutions. Being able to find the right place to do the work toward recovery is an important step. The wants needs of each and every addict are different from each other, and the process of finding a place to fully recover can be a very deep, difficult, personal and intense process.

Most smokers believe that they can’t quit, that cigarettes are more powerful than they are. Actually this is fear , because if you continue to smoke, how can you recognize that it’s hard without cigarettes? This is a result from your habit that is controlling you so much that it won’t allow you to assume how life can look like without smoking.

This point bestows a different doubt or excuse of yours. This is partially true, you adore the time spent with yourself in that moment. But the cigarette will burn after two minutes, so why light it in the first place? She’ll burn but the pleasure will only last for two minutes. It will last for two minutes and only two minutes. No more. This conditioning will continue until you are brave enough to interrupt this pattern.

First and the foremost thing you have to do is to dislike that you’re controlled. How can you be a free human being, when someone or something controls you? This should be the first milestone for you. The rest are simply techniques that will help you substitute the smoking habit.

You will not stop smoking without thinking and trying to apply a non-smoker habit.

After you are convinced that you understand this, and only after you’re sure, follow these instructions:

• If you can live on without smoking for only one minute, don’t you think that you can do it in the next minute? Sure you can. You should battle the craving by the minute. It is a much shorter time period to fight your battle and win. This makes the war all that much easier.

• Your first trigger takes place at a point where the body is conditioned to enjoy a cigarette along with a drink or after a meal, etc. These triggers will last for a maximum of 5 minutes. During these 5 minutes your entire body will convince you that it is okay to light a cigarette, which you have reason and it will come up with so many excuses that it will be hard for you to say no.

• You should not involve yourself in your personal fight with the habit. You can’t win your habit in this way, because there will be a period when you’re feeling “down” and that will be a good enough reason for lighting a cigarette.

• You should also be alert that you’ll be very confused in the first 3 days and this is normal and you should accept it. This is the period where your brain is forcing you to light a cigarette and attempts to convince you with what may seem “reasonable” excuses. Since you programmed your brain to feel pleasure whenever you light a cigarette, it is now telling you that something might be wrong without a cigarette or that something might be missing from your life.

Your brain is similar to a big and mighty ship, but you’re the captain, and it will follow your navigation orders, but needs time to take the right course. There is also wind that is blowing your ship in several directions, and there is still a force that is pushing the ship towards the old navigation commands. Don’t forget the power that you as a captain posses, you can change the course of your ship in any direction you want.

You’ll need only 3 days to begin feeling like a non-smoker.

Some other very supportive thing is to try to help some of your friends who are smokers. Try telling them about this techniques and theories and check their opinion. You can make some kind of pact, trying to work together to beat this habit. At the bottom of every post there is a link labeled “Tell a friend!”. Use this link to forward this message and at least remind your friends that they can quit. This can be very stimulating for you and your strength to quit smoking.

From loads of the well known methods on how to quit smoking, I will share with you the biggest discovery that will make you feel commanding enough to begin the course of becoming a nonsmoker. This unearthing will power you up day after day. You will enjoy the process and finally experience how easy life can be as a nonsmoker. Let’s see an example: If you have ever tried to quit smoking in the past, what consequences caused you to smoke again? Think and observe the details of your brain. 15 minutes after “the last cigarette” you say to yourself, “I can do this.” After 2 hours you say, “I don’t know what’s going on; should I feel something?” After 2 1/2 hours you say, “What will I do now?” “Should I eat something?” “I have to do something, maybe just this one last cigarette.” Or you say, “Maybe I’m not prepared as I should be… Maybe God Himself should come and personally tell me directly in my face that now is the time?” Well maybe you will see Him, and maybe you are the one that is departing to visit Him. Rest guaranteed that this is a normal way of thinking. Some people have been “trying to quit” for decades and they are a testament that discontinuing is hard.

Well here is the innovation: It is rigid for every smoker quit because they are constantly thinking about smoking. After they “decide” to stop, all sorts of smoking related thoughts arise that they try to overcome, to beat somehow. When they not succeed they end up lighting cigarette again. If you want to quit you don’t need a 7 day or 21 day program. You need to start thinking as non-smokers do. Do they think about smoking? NO. All you have to do is not get involved in your personal discussion with yourself. When you notice that your brilliant brain start doing its job (thinking), you, in response, start doing your job and immediately change the focus. Simply change the subject. Thinking like a non-smoker is the only way to become a non-smoker.

The other self-help methods do have some helpful tips. However, if you start counting how many years, months, and days and hours you are free from nicotine, I assure you that there will come a time in your life when you will stop counting and start smoking again. The cure is to think and feel like a non-smoker.

Young people consume drugs for numerous reasons that have to do with how they feel about themselves, how they get along with others, and how they live.

No one feature ascertains who will use drugs and who will not, but there are some predictors and key risk factors:

Low grades or poor school performance;

Aggressive, defiant behaviour;

unwarranted influence by peers;

Lack of parental support and guidance; a disorganized home life

Behaviour problems at an early age.

Parental drug use

Low socio-economic status

Poor social skills

It is essential to distinguish between experimental and problem drug use. Only a very small proportion of young people who experiment go on to develop problem drug use.

Researchers and practitioners allot a crucial role to the family in the development or prevention of drug-related behaviours. The family is seen to exercise influence in a variety of ways:

earby family relationships

Parents have a very dominant influence as role models for their children, who tend to follow what their parents do rather than what they say. The closeness of the parent-child bond is found to protect against problem drug use by encouraging mutual parent-child trust, effective communication, positive self-perception and choice of friends. Poor communication, poorly defined or stated expectations of behaviour and inconsistent or harsh discipline can all predict substance misuse.

Family management

Parenting skills tend to be passed on down the generations. Parents who lack effective management skills are less well equipped to deal with family crises, to reward or punish appropriately, to develop positive social behaviours in their children or to protect them from negative influences.

Parental command

Parents knowing where their children are and what they are doing can hindrance or prevent the onset of drug use. The influence of this supervision can be direct in keeping children away from drugs, or indirect by reducing contact with drug-using peers.
